New Entries in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Data Quality

I had a chance to scan through the recently released Gartner Magic Quadrant report for Data Quality tools. One immediate interesting note is about the size of market for data quality tools as “approximately $800 million in software-related revenue at the end of 2010, showing strong 12.6% growth over 2009,” which is a good indicator of the continued interest in data quality improvement and data governance.

Also interesting is continued evolution of ideas that I have been advocating since the publication of my earlier book on data quality and is of particular focus in my current book, namely that:

New market entrants and long-standing competitors are delivering technology with a focus on data quality analysis, pervasive deployment of data quality controls, (and) ongoing data quality monitoring…”

My third observation is the arrival of new entries in the MQ, and incredibly both are listed as visionaries: Ataccama and Talend. I have worked with the folks from both organizations and this inclusion in this years report deserves kudos!
